Lakeland Schoolhouse

Learning that is play-based, project-driven, and personalized. Not only is it possible…. at WonderHere, it is the standard.

Our WonderHere Schoolhouse is a small private school founded on the principles of play-based, project-driven, and personalized education. Utilizing our Family-Style™ Schoolhouse model, children are taught core skills and concepts, while also getting the opportunity to explore their own interests with the guidance of teacher mentorship.

At our WonderHere Farm location, we are able to offer a more enriching learning environment with abundant natural light, bright open-spaces, vegetable and fruit gardens for tending to, care-taking opportunities for animals, and ample room for learning and growing together.

With both full-day and half-day options, there is room for you here at the Schoolhouse! All students, whether attending half-day or full-day, will receive daily, direct instruction in the areas of language arts, math, and science/history with an assigned teacher. In addition to instruction in those core subjects, they get the opportunity to explore their interests through project time and play.

Students attending full-days get a lunch time, outdoor playtime, and the option of joining an afternoon elective class (at an extra cost).

Available Programs

Minis

Our Minis program is designed for children age 3 & 4 who are curious, innovative, cooperative, and would thrive in a structured, play-based environment. This class focuses on physical, social, & character development; enhancing the personal well-being of the child; respect & ethics (encouraging behaviors that take other people into account); leadership & responsibility; providing opportunities for choice and self-affirmation; gentle exposure to early literacy & numeracy through play & exploration. Space is very limited and student selection is based on readiness to learn kindly and collaboratively in a structured social environment.

Elementary

Within our Elementary Schoolhouse, all ages will work collaboratively during a Montessori-style Work Cycle Hour. During Work Cycle, they are sharpening skills and developing interests in science, history, technology, engineering, projects, study skills, time management, self-motivation, and ownership of their learning. Following this hour, students will work within their designated multi-age classroom for core academics provided through individualized learning plans.

Core Values

WonderHere does not enroll children with significant or consistent behavior challenges that might interfere with the learning atmosphere of WonderHere. Does your child have any prevalent behaviors that we should be aware of?

WonderHere Agreements

It is vital that all potential families participating in WonderHere programs understand and align with the complete vision of our educational process. Please take a moment to review these essential elements of the WonderHere educational philosophy and experience. Upon reading each statement, please select "yes" if you agree and "no" if you disagree.
I understand that all new families enrolled in the WonderHere program, are required to attend the New Parent Workshop before their child can attend classes.
I understand that, at WonderHere, we highly value productive Parent Partnerships. This positive relationship is built on mutual trust, respect, and cooperation and has been proven to be an agent for change and growth. With the WonderHere “Parents at WORK” system, all parents of enrolled children are expected to demonstrate involvement by hands-on and active participation within our learning community. THIS is the WonderHere difference: family-style learning where parents are engaged and involved throughout the year in meaningful ways. Please review the Parents at WORK expectations below. Will anything prevent your family fulfilling this requirement?
Parents at WORK: All parents must: 1. Volunteer within *EACH of their children’s 2-hour classroom WORK Cycle each quarter for a total of 8 hours. 2. Volunteer for 1 out of the 4 offered family WORK Days for a total of 4 hours (or equal cumulative site work project hours). 3. Attend 1 out of the 2 parent WORKshops to grow in the community and understanding of how we do school here for a total of 1-4 hours.
I understand that it is vital for the growth of my child that I, the parent, have a healthy awareness of my child's strengths and weaknesses. When conflict arises, I am committed to be a problem-solver and actively working to find solutions that meet the expectation of the WonderHere staff.
I understand that WonderHere is a collaborative community of parents, teachers, and children. I am committed to be a positive contributor to this learning community and encouraging my child to be an empathetic, active participator in their classroom with their peers.
I understand that WonderHere Curriculum is not paced to "keep up" with Florida State Standards or to prepare children for state standardized assessments. WonderHere has adopted the Finnish Standards for the development of curriculum and the monitoring of child progress. Due to Finland's high level of innovation as a country educationally and their consistently high performance on the Program for International Student Assessment (PISA - an important tool for measuring education systems worldwide) WonderHere has established that these standards most closely identify with the vision and ideologies of each WonderHere program's design.
I understand that WonderHere curriculum is designed to cultivate a love of learning within the child and to develop holistically the following within every child we serve: curiosity, empathy, collaboration, problem solving, leadership, and creativity. WonderHere values deep learning that takes time, includes challenge, promotes self-reflection, and is individually child paced. It is contrary to the vision and purpose of a WonderHere education to focus on standardized benchmarks that promote rote memory and teach skills in isolation that lack real-world application.

WonderHere Financial Agreement

Please read the below Financial Agreement and sign your acknowledgment and agreement to the terms outlined below.
Payments for all tuition-based programs are housed within our SmartCare software. Each family attending these programs must be enrolled in SmartCare. The cost of this software is $3/month per child and will be added to your monthly costs during your enrollment period at WonderHere July-April. During this time, you have the option of using bank account information or credit card information when setting up the payment portion of SmartCare. We strongly encourage you to use bank account information, as there are no additional fees associated with this method. When using credit card information, you will be charged an additional 2.75% of each transaction. All payments are due on the 15th of each month, beginning July 15th. It is encouraged that you elect to autopay through SmartCare so that no payments are tardy. Late payment fees may apply to families that are consistently late with their monthly tuition. You also have the option of paying the entire tuition upfront or in larger lump sums, if that is more convenient for you. To do so, once enrolled into SmartCare, simply make your payment, of however amount, through the payment processor and it will adjust your monthly payments accordingly. Please note that WonderHere observes all federal holidays and will also be closed for 1 week for Thanksgiving, 2 weeks for the Christmas holiday, and 1 week for Spring Break. These dates were factored into the overall cost and are reflected in the monthly payments. No additional payment adjustments will be made in months during which holidays are observed.
