Session 1: Oct 4-25: Treasures Underground – Exploration of Rocks, Minerals and Fossils
“Geologists have a saying—Rocks remember.”- Neil Armstrong
Introduction to the hobby of rock & fossil collecting and the science of geology in central Florida and beyond. Students will learn about different types of rocks, where they were formed, where to find them and how to identify them. Get tips on creating an exciting rock collection.
Session 2: Nov 1-29 (No class week of Thanksgiving): Sounds of Nature
All sounds of the earth are like music. – Oscar Hammerstein
This fun workshop will allow students to listen to sounds found in nature and create musical instruments to harmonize with the songs of nature. This workshop is hands on and will allow students to explore the world of music through nature.
Session 3: Jan 10-31: Discover Central Florida Birds

We have the most beautiful and unique birds that call Central Florida home. Go on a journey with us as we explore the beauty around us and in the air. This workshop will introduce students to bird watching and include an off-site opportunity to observe these creatures in their natural habitats.
Session 4: Feb 7-28: Take to the Air

From paper planes to gliders and kites to rockets, we will be discovering and exploring flight. After an introduction to flight students will have the opportunity to build their own flight machines. This hands-on approach to discovering lift, drag, thrust and gravity.
Session 5: March 6-April 3 (no class spring break week): Water Works

The essential ingredient of life. Water is one of our greatest and most valuable resources. Through a hands-on laboratory, we will explore forms of water, how water moves and cycles in nature, and how nature filters water.
Session 6: April 10-May 1: The Nature Artist
“Art is born of the observation and investigation of nature.” Cicero
Growing artistic creativity through objects found in nature. This workshop will encourage students to go beyond simple “craft” arts to thinking differently about the way they see and engage with nature. Each week we will learn about a new method of creating and storytelling though art. Students will have hands-on opportunities each week.
